Dear Glover Parents,

Glover’s new telephone number is (330)761-7964.

Welcome to the first full week of fall.  There is definitely a chill in the air and a “feel” of fall in the air.

There are many happenings at Glover in the next couple of weeks that you need to be aware of.  Please keep this letter for handy reference.

Father’s Walk is on Thursday, September 19 from 7:50 – 8:30 AM.  Dads or grandfathers or significant male role model are invited to walk your Glover student to school, have breakfast in the LRC/cafeteria, and then listen to a few words from Pastor Drone.  This is an excellent opportunity to take part in your child’s educational journey.  This will make your child so proud!  Looking forward to seeing you on September 19th.  Reservation flyers are being sent home today.   Make sure you stop by the photo booth for a picture.

Interim Pick-Up is Thursday evening, September 26th from 2:45 - 6:45 PM.  Parents, this is an excellent time for you to come up and meet with your child’s teacher and see how he/she is progressing thus far in the school year.  This is also a time to speak to your child’s teacher about any issues or concerns you may have.  We want to all be on the same page so your child’s educational journey will be a successful one this year.  Also, The Chapel will graciously provide dinner beginning at 4:00 PM in the school cafeteria.  You are invited to meet with your child’s teacher and enjoy dinner.  if you are unable to attend, your child’s Interim will be mailed this week.  The Chapel is partnering with Glover this year providing many services and opportunities for the Glover students and staff.

Have you signed up to view your child’s grades throughout the grading period?  With one sign-up and password you can view all of your children’s grades in  APS.  You just need to see Mrs. Walker, the Glover secretary, to get the directions to sign up and get your password.  We will have Chromebooks set up at Interim Pick-Up for your convenience.

Students in second and fourth grade will be taking the CogAt 7 test the week of October 7th.  There is a test each day in that assessment.  We ask that your child is in school every day.  It is easier for your child to do their best when he/she takes the test with the class.

EMIS Week:  October 7th is EMIS WEEK.  EMIS WEEK is very important for school funding.  This is the week the state calculates how many students are enrolled and attend school at Glover.  Please try to have your child in school every day.  If your child has to be absent, please call the school by 10:00 and let us know why he/she is absent.  We must account for every student on our rolls.

School Picture Day:  Wednesday, October 2nd is school picture day.  Fall pictures are pre-pay.  Every child gets his/her picture taken but picture packages are only made for the students that ordered a package.  We must have the money by 8:00 AM on October 2nd.  Please have the correct change in the envelopes.  Please make a separate envelope for each of your children to assure that a picture packet will be made for each child.  We do not have money on hand at school to make change!  You may pay by cash, money order, or online only.  Students do not have to wear their uniform on Picture Day!

Glover Family Literacy Night will be on Thursday, October 3 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.  Circle the date on our calendar.  There will be stations to visit, an author will present his book “The Bat Book”, The Chapel will provide dinner, and there will be drawings for prizes.  Come and enjoy this family event!  Fill out and return the attached form if you will be attending.

Glover Attendance for the week of September 9th 93.6%
Attendance percentages will hopefully be better this week.  It is very important with all of the testing coming up that your child is here every day to be fully prepared. Our attendance has dropped from last week!  Parents it is very, very important that your child is in school every day!  Missing one day of school a week adds up quickly to a gap in your child’s learning.

The PTA Book Fair: There will be a Scholastic Book Fair at Glover beginning on Monday, September 23rd through September 27th.  You can stop in at Interim Pick-Up and help your child pick out a book.  Students will also visit the book fair during their LRC time.

The Akron After School Program for “selected students” in second and third grade will begin on Monday, October 14th.  You must have your application returned to the school by Friday, September 27, 2019.  The program runs from October 14 – December 5, 2019.  The program times are 2:30 – 4:00 PM Monday thru Thursday.  The program runs on a 3-strike policy as far as behavior and late pick-ups.  Late pick-ups will be counted as strikes also.  Please be sure you are on time to pick up your child if he/she is not walking home after the program.  Selected students in grades two and three will be invited to the Akron After School program.

Boy Scouts will return to Glover on Friday, September 20th.  Boys Scouts is held at Glover on Fridays from 2:30 – 3:30 PM.  Boy Scouts is open to boys in grades 1 – 5.    The boys really enjoy being a part of the Boy Scouts.

Girl Scouts will return to Glover on Monday, October 7th.  Girl Scouts is held at Glover on Mondays from 2:30 - 3:30 PM.  Girl Scouts is open to girls in grades 1 - 5.  The girls really enjoy being a part of the Girl Scouts.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Have a Plan

I’m sure you have heard plenty of stories where two characters would come up with some interesting ideas of how to make money. Then after they made the money, one would live for the moment while the other would plan ahead and spend the money wisely. This goes right along with the theme of Habit 2. Begin with the End in Mind is the habit of vision, or the habit of having a plan.
This habit helps our students and your kids to understand that it is important to set goals and create a plan to reach them. Encourage them to write it down. As the saying goes, “A goal not written down is only a wish.” Remember to discuss with your child how planning ahead, whether it is with money, in school, or in life, always leads to good things, including being better positioned to help others.

Practice at home:
Lay out your clothes for tomorrow before you go to bed.
Write down your goal and put it in a safe place where you can see it each day.
Think about what you want to be when you grow up. Then share it with someone who can help you learn more about it.

Habit 1: Be Proactive  *  Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Habit 3: Put First Things First * Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Habit 6: Synergize * Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Parents, if you are dropping your child off for breakfast, please make sure you are not blocking the parking spaces or the traffic pattern in the parking lot.  You may drop them off and keep moving.  You may drop off your child at 7:50 at door #1 (the main entrance) and they can go to breakfast from there and you can see them walk into the building.  There are about ten students that are at the door at 7:30 AM.  That is way too early.  There is no supervision until the doors open for breakfast at 7:50 AM  If you child is not eating breakfast, he/she does not need to be at school until 8:15.
