Dear Glover Parents,
Summer is coming to a close and autumn is just around the corner. The weather is supposed to be very warm then cool down this week. If the air quality is bad we will not be going out for recess. I know many of the children have asthma and this would not be good for them. If your child uses an inhaler, please make sure the inhaler is at school with the proper paperwork. The children are working hard every day to learn.
New Phone Number for Glover CLC: (330)761-7964
We are checking immunization records this week. Hopefully your child is up-to-date with his/her immunizations. If this is not the case, you will be receiving a letter about not being in compliance. We do not want to have to exclude anyone for not having the proper immunizations.
I am thinking that there are still a few families that do not know the school hours for Glover. The actual school day is 8:30 to 2:30. Breakfast begins at 7:50 AM. Students walk to their classroom at 8:15 and morning announcements are at 8:25 AM. Please become familiar with our hours and times and adjust your routines so your child is on time for breakfast and school.
Most all of the students have been to school every day and on time. That is EXCELLENT. We are working very hard this year to increase our attendance. Teachers are working on incentives in each of their classrooms to increase attendance. The state of Ohio has tightened up the attendance policy for students. We have students working for extra wildcat tickets, extra recess, a “no” homework pass, just to name a few. It is also important that your child is “on time” each day. When they are late, it is hard for them to catch up for the minutes lost by being late.
I hope you noticed at Open House all of the positive expectations we have for your students in the hallway, the cafeteria, the bathroom, and the positive ways your child can be recognized for doing the right thing. Students are even reminded of positive expectations when they walk up the center steps.
Glover CLC is a Title I building. This means that we receive federal money to support our students. We have, as a building committee, spent the funds on:
full-time Instructional Coach
four classroom tutors
student planners for the students
take-home folders for Kindergarten and first grade students
Family Literacy Night and Family Math Night
Professional Development subs for staff
Have you updated your child’s emergency form? Please make sure we have an emergency form for your child in the school office with at least two working numbers on the emergency card. It is very disheartening to have a sick child in the clinic and not be able to reach the guardian to pick up the child.
Attention parents and guardians of third, fourth, and fifth grade students: Your child will be bringing Chromebooks home. Students need to take the Chromebooks home every night, charge them, and bring them back the next day fully charged. Your child is responsible for the Chromebook and taking good care of it. It is your child’s responsibility to bring it to school every day. That is the Chromebook he/she will use to complete their daily assignments in class and do research. The new Social Studies curriculum is also on online for fourth and fifth grade.
Thank you to the parents that have walked their child to the cafeteria for breakfast. It is now time for the students to come to breakfast on their own. We work every day to make them independent learners. Therefore, parents will no longer be permitted to walk their child to the cafeteria and sit with their child during breakfast.
Attached to today’s newsletter is the school lunch menu for September. Please post it at home so you know what the students are having for lunch and if you may have to pack if your child does not like what is being served.
The “Father’s Walk” will be on Thursday, September 19th. We encourage fathers, stepfathers, foster fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, godfathers, cousins, and other significant male caregivers to take their children to school on Thursday, September 19th. Men who support the “Fathers Walk” should arrive with their children at the school between 7:50 and 8:15. When men are involved in the educational lives of their children, children perform better at school. The school will be hosting a continental breakfast in the LRC for the “fathers” and their students.
Please drive carefully when you are dropping off and picking up your children in the front parking lot. Please observe the flow of traffic. Do not have your children running between traffic to get to your car. We do not want any of our precious children to get hurt. Remember, you cannot stop in the middle of the lane and hold up traffic behind you. That line should be flowing at all times and you should not be blocking the STOP sign. .
Also, please stay back from the front door (#1) when you wait for your child/ren at dismissal. It is really congested and the teachers have a hard time getting their classes out the door and watch their children. Students in first through fifth grade exit the building through door #1. Kindergarten students exit the building through th Kindergarten door. Remember that school is over at 2:30 PM. We have had students here until after 3:00 PM almost every day since school started. If you are picking up your student at the end of the day it is your responsibility to be on time. Glover does not have any after school daycare programs. We have a group of students that go to Brightside, the “Y”, or Abacus which are before and after school providers. Please call the office if you need that phone number.
Parents, please make arrangements in the morning with your child as to what he/she is supposed to do at the end of the school day. We are getting so many calls after 2:00 and some as late as 2:25 as the children are lining up and we cannot always get the message delivered in a timely manner. Your child should know in the morning how he/she is getting home at night and if he/she is supposed to walk or is getting picked up.
The APS dress code is in effect. We must be in uniform now. That means a solid colored Polo shirt with a collar. We have had students in stripes and plaids. The Polo shirt can be any solid color. Pants, shorts, and skirts must be black, blue, or khaki (tan). Shorts may be worn until October 1st/ Please make sure your child is in uniform beginning tomorrow.
