Dear Glover Parents,

We are beginning the fourth marking period for the 2018/2019 school year this Monday.  Your child’s educational journey continues.  We have been working very hard on raising attendance as one of our goals.  Remember, any student that has not been absent or tardy or signed out early will receive a bicycle at the end-of-the-year Recognition Assembly.

Lunchtime Snacks:  I am in the lunchroom at lunch every day.  I am seeing more and more of the “hot” Cheetos and “hot” Doritos and Takis to name a few.  There is research that confirms that the red dye in these “hot” snacks is not conducive to your child’s learning.  Also, your child is not eating anything nutritious at lunch except the unhealthy snacks he/she is bringing to the lunchroom.  Please monitor what your child is packing or sneaking out of the house to eat.
Spring break begins on Friday, April 19, 2019 and ends on Friday, April 26, 2019.  School resumes on Monday, April 29, 2019.

PTA Popcorn Day:  The next PTA Popcorn Day for Glover will be this Friday, March 22nd.  Bring your $.50 and order your delicious popcorn this week with delivery on Friday, March 22nd.

Glover CLC Library Dedication:  The Glover CLC LRC will be dedicated in the name of Tony Swain who was a former student at Glover.  Tony was killed at the crosswalk at Hammel and Lovers Lane, pushing his sister out of the way of a car that didn’t stop.  The Akron School Board, at a fall meeting, proclaimed that the Glover CLC be named the Tony Anthony Swain Library.  Tony had a love of reading.  The dedication program will take place on Tuesday, March 19th, at 10:00 AM.  You are cordially invited to attend.  We are asking that all of our Glover students wear their Glover T-shirts on Tuesday, March 19th.

Pepperoni Rolls Fundraiser:  Have you ordered any of the delicious pepperoni rolls the students are selling?  It is not too late.  Orders can be taken up until March 27th when orders and money are due.  The price is $2.00 each and there are four different choices.  Please ask your relatives and friends to support this fundraiser.  Profits will be used for incentives and awards for the Glover students.

Kindergarten registration is in progress at Glover.  You may come in any school day from 9:00 – 11:00 AM and 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  Please register now if you are going to have children in Kindergarten next year.  This is the time of the year for planning how many classes we will have of each grade level.  Registering now will make a difference.  It also helps us for ordering textbooks and supplies for next year.  A big thank you to all of the families that have already registered.

Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.  Please look over and discuss your child’s report card with him/her.  Praise his/her progress and areas of strength.  Sit down and set some goals for your child together for the last nine weeks of school.  Also pay particular attention to see if your child is reading on grade level.  Students not reading on grade level were invited to summer school.  If you do not receive your child’s report card on Tuesday, March 26th, please ask your child where it is.

The Recognition Assembly for the third grading period will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.  Kindergarten and first grade Recognition will be at 9:00 AM.  Second and third grade Recognition will be at 9:35 AM.  Fourth and fifth grade Recognition will be at 10:10 AM

I have had some reports from people in the Glover community that our children are fighting and bullying younger students on the way home from school.  Please speak to your child about their behavior to and from school.  This is totally unacceptable!  I have been talking and warning some of the students involved.  I remind the students that the “Code of Student Behavior” is in effect to and from school.  Hopefully the bullying and fighting will stop or stronger measures will have to be taken.

Please do not have your child arriving at school before 7:50 in the morning.  That is the time breakfast begins.  We had a first grade student here this morning at 7:25 AM cold and crying.  If your child is not eating breakfast, he/she does not need to arrive until 8:15 AM.  There is no supervision for your child before 7:50 AM.

I know it is Spring and the clocks were moved ahead an hour a week ago.  We are having far too many students tardy every day.  This is not a good habit to get into.  When your child is not on time he/she misses the morning announcements and morning circle and bell work in the classroom.  This is a time to “set the tone” for the day.

Just a reminder that the Akron After School” program will end on Thursday, April 18th.  The last day of the “Akron After School” program is on Thursday, April 18th.  The program was a wonderful opportunity for your child.  I hope your child enjoyed the activity.

Attendance for the week of March 12th for Glover CLC is 90.78%.  That is a drop of 2 points over the same week last year!  That is not good!  Attendance is slowly dropping each week from the same period last year!  This is our lowest percentage in a very long time!  Students need to be in school every day with the high stakes tests starting soon for third, fourth, and fifth grade!

Please make sure your child/ren are following the dress code for Akron Public Schools.  Shirts are a solid color with a collar.  Pants are khaki (tan), blue, or black color.  Students are not permitted to wear hoodies in the classroom.  We have had many students that have had to call home because they are out of uniform.  Please follow the dress code.  Students cannot wear shorts until May 1st!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.  The educational journey continues through the last grading period.  Please make sure your child is reading every evening!
