Dear Glover Parents,

What a difference a weekend makes!  Hopefully you escaped any damage from the high winds.

Kindergarten Registration:  Kindergarten registration continues.  You may register daily from 9:00 AM – noon and 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  It is time for us to start planning for the 2019/2020 school year.  Glover has already begun to register students for Kindergarten.  You will need to bring the following:

Proof of Residence
Birth Certificate
Immunization Record (including the chicken pox shot)
  Social Security Card
Custody Papers (if there has been a divorce or separation)

Please spread the word about Kindergarten registration to your neighbors, relatives, or friends who might be starting a child at Glover for the first time.

Akron After School:  “Akron After School” begins TODAY.  Please make sure that you are on time to pick up your child at 4:00 PM if he/she is not walking home.

“Good News Club”:  “Good News Club” begins on Wednesday, February 27th from 2:30 - 4:00 PM.  This is sponsored by The Chapel.  A permission slip is attached if you would like your child to attend.  Your child must have a signed permission slip in order to participate in the program.

Looking Ahead:   Spring break for the Akron Public Schools begins on Friday, April 19th.  Students return after Spring break on Monday, April 29th.

Ohio State Testing:  The Ohio State Tests  begin on Monday, April 1st.   The students in grades three, four, and five will be tested in Reading and Math.  Students in fifth grade will also take a Science test.  Please make sure your child is at school every day during testing week so he/she can be tested with their class.  Students need to have a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast.  . Ohio State Testing words for this week are:

Generalize—Infer from particular facts: state in a more general form.

Illustration—Something such as an examples that helps make something clear; a picture or diagram that helps make something clear.

Infer—Find out by reasoning from something known; imply; conclude.

Interpret—Explain the meaning of something in your own words.

Attendance:  Our Attendance for the month of February was the lowest month since school started.  It was down to just 91%.  We need our attendance to be at least 93% each day!  Please make sure your child is at school every day.    Also, make sure your child arrives on time for school.  Tardies count!  Students need to be on time to start the routine for the day in their classrooms.  Congratulations to those students that have Perfect Attendance!
Overall attendance for the weeks of February 18 - 22:  90.3%

The school year is quickly passing by.  There are 62 days of school remaining.  I hope it has been a productive one for you and your child.  The Glover staff works very hard to help your child experience success during the school day.  The learning doesn’t stop at the end of the school day.  Please read with your child and make sure he/she completes any homework assignments.  Homework is an extension of lessons introduced and taught in class.

Dress Code:  Please check what your child is wearing before he/she leaves the house in the morning.  Students are coming to school out of uniform.  Remember, the APS dress code is a solid-colored polo shirt or blouse with a collar and khaki, blue, or black pants.  Students are telling the office staff that they had no clean clothes.  When we call home this is not the case.  We ask for your help in getting everyone on track.  We only wear the Glover T-shirt on designated days.

Sign-Out Procedures:  You must be the guardian listed on the emergency form to sign-out your child during the school day.  If you want someone other than yourself to sign-out your child, you must either call the school and let the secretary know that you are sending someone to sign-out your child, write a note to the office or your child’s teacher, or come in and let the office know.  Also, there will be no sign-outs after 2:00 PM.  The students are listening to the end-of-the-day announcements, are writing down their homework assignments, and getting ready to go to the buses.  Everyone must also bring a photo ID when signing out a student.  We want all children to be safe.

School Pictures:  Wednesday, March 13th is school picture day.  Only students who are getting their pictures taken may dress in their Sunday best!  If your child is not getting his/her picture taken then he/she should wear the school uniform.  Picture order forms were sent home last week.  Have your child stop in the office if you need another one.  Just like in the fall, it is pre-pay packages.  The pictures will be back before Spring break.
